MadManPoker presents new faces!

by Mad Man on Feb.16, 2010, under Welcome

Hi,

As you are reading this, you must have noticed the site underwent a serious face lift.

The old look just didn’t do it for me anymore and had always been a bit too heavy and “made” for my taste.
This new and sobre fresh look was especially designed for us by my dear friend Eddy, and I am most grateful for the effort he was willing to put in.
I hope you like this new “light” look as much as I do and that you enjoy the new feel of the site.

In other news, we have added a new face to our team as well.
When Michiel made the transition to MickeyCPoker (and we wish him all the best) he left a bit of an empty spot.
Luckily by that time I had already started behind the curtains to update the site and started planning on expanding team “MadMan”.

Niels Blommaert is probably the closest thing you can have to a prodigy in the very closed of group we have.
When you consider our team “as a whole” (MadManPoker, MickeyCPoker, The Social Geeks and all our “independents”) there has always been a few who dominate the group a little.
In a very short amount of time, Niels grew from a group member to a force that everybody should reckon with.
Especially in Omaha, I think he can put himself right next to any other player around us, and maybe in some aspects of the game, even above.

That does not mean Niels will only talk about Omaha, and I’m still not one to put a fixed topic on the people writing here, but I’m guessing it will he will fill the void where I humbly left it open.

In essence this means the look of the site will change once again.
I made the mistake with Michiel of granting him space to write his deepest thoughts on the game, but never put up a design that was to be compared with my own articles.
Niels will enjoy the luxury to have a “library” just like I do with the “Beyond the madness”-articles.

I will let Niels present his own “pseudonym” and the name under which his core writing will show on the site.

And I hope you will enjoy picking his mind as much as I do.

Nothing left for me to leave you to him, and untill next time, take care.

A bit of this, A bit of that and a lot of everything

by Mad Man on Dec.05, 2008, under Welcome

The site is now finally “fully working”. Not everything is as it should be yet, but now at least people using Internet explorer can use the site with all his subpages.
That means from now on, the articles “Beyond the madness” will get a short “teaser” on the frontpage and will be fully posted as seperate pages under their own link in the top right corner.

Hopefully in a short while, it will be possible to reach us through mail adresses of the site itself.
madman@madmanpoker.be, team@madmanpoker.be, … .

I staked my friend Jeroen at Pokerstars, mainly to make him play heads up matches in the Sit ‘n Go area. I offered him a 30% win / 30% loss deal, wich he took.
Unfortunately, Jeroen will always stay Jeroen and he put his play on the minimum, even through not playing at all because otherwise “he has to pay me too much”. I would have been happy with anything I could get out of this deal, but the whole quote is quite disapointing to hear. It’s never fun to try and help out a friend on, if I say so myself, a pretty nice deal, and then have him backfire at you. I’ll never learn.

Tonight we’re playing the first match of our Home Series Of Poker (yea, I know), first game up is Seven-Stud, and playing tonight are: Mickey C (mickeycpoker.be), Thomas Vanbrabant (mickeycpoker.be), Bart Seresia (TPC-Heads-Up Champion), Jonas Drieghe (TPC III Champion), Michiel Maes (madmanpoker.be, “Trechter pokert” Champion) and myself (madmanpoker.be, TPC IV Champion). I don’t know how we will do, but I hope I can at least play deep.

Next week is “All-in-week” at madmanpoker.be, I don’t know if we will keep doing “theme weeks”, but I at least we can try and see what gives. If it is a success, we’ll be doing more of those, if not, hey, we gave it our best shot.

I’m currently myself playing the heads-up matches on pokerstars as well, but yesterday was a bad day for me. I did won 2 tournaments, but later on I kept running into beats or nicely slowplayed monsters. When it’s time to leave, it’s time to leave, and so I did.
In the end, the plan is to clear around 50 dollars per week. This seems extremely steep, but first of all, goals need to be high. Otherwise they are not goals. Secondly, I feel that this is somewhat of a realistic goal, given that I don’t loose too much to slowplayed 4’s, that is.

Next Thursday we’re playing just regular No Limit Hold’em again in our own home-ring-game. I still feel best at ease at NLH, or maybe lowball. The past weeks taught me that I need to pick up on my other variances. Even tough I could perfectly explain what went wrong with both PLO as with Seven Stud, I was definately out of my comfort zone. Something to work on.

On TPC-area, we made a fun adjustement to our decoration of the room. Hopefull in february we will already have our champions board where we will display all past champions of our “main event”, being Christof Morel, Gertjan Verbraeken, Jonas Drieghe, myself and Thomas Wouters. It’ll be strange seeing my own face displayed, but we’ll get used to it. :D

Well, that was all for now. I’ll keep you posted on our HSOP-match.

Welcome to Mad Man Poker

by Mad Man on Nov.17, 2008, under Welcome

Hi,

And welcome to madmanpoker.be

In the very near future this will be my headquarters for some crazy thoughts about, but not limited to the wonderous world of poker.

I am mainly a No Limit Texas Hold’Em player, but all types of the game are working their way into my arsenal.

And on these pages I will grant you a view Beyond the madness, tell you something about my days as a player and analyse things I come across.

So will you only see my side of the story ?

Off course not. I went out and found myself a wingman in Michiel Maes, not only the one concerning the more technical aspects of this site, but also did he promise me a view on his thoughts on poker from time to time.

Why ? Because you don’t get them any more anti-madness than Michiel. And as you will find out, I stay true to my characteristics, but am a huge fan of diversity in styles. Both for myself and my oponnents.

For now, I wish you goodnight.

Stijn “Mad Man” Heyens
