The Mad Man
Name: Stijn Heyens
Known aliases: Mad Man, Elkan, Teddy
date of birth: 13/05/1983
place of birth: Sint-Niklaas, Belgium
intrests:
- music: I once was the lead singer to a band, but those were the days now. I still enjoy a passive love for music, and you may take a broad view on that passion. I listen to everything from soft rock to experimental electronic music, especially hard-rock, metal, wave, R&B, but also dutch singer-songwriters.
- film: I am a freak with a frustration! I don’t even see close to enough films although I like cinema a lot. Going from brain dead Hollywood flicks to European films for people who like a challenge on their big screen.
- series: Just as above in film, I am very fond of television series as well. Prison Break, Dr. Who, Torchwood, How I met your mother, Heroes, The Unit, … . I like it all.
- social life: We have a meeting center in our community where youth of all ages can relax, drink a little, meet up and basicly have fun. That of course needs people to tend to it and keep the whole thing going. One of those people is me, along with an entire group of friends.
And as if that wasn’t enough, I am a footballsteward. For those not knowing what to expect: image your typical football fan. Now imagine the idiot trying to keep that fan in line. That idiot is me. Throughout the years I worked my way up and I am now a chief steward at my club. The youngest one in Belgium, for as far a I know. That means a lot of problems to solve. For starters, Belgium has 3 languages, I get visitors from all around the country, so my verbal skills need to be good in 3 tongues. That’s hard, … really.
- poker: I know, I’m a pokergeek. You might have noticed. Look around!
favourite hand: T8
least favourite hand: AQ for the trouble I run into with it, 83 because it’s just a shitty hand
favourite player: Daniel Negreanu
most embarassing moment: taking the walk of shame at TPC III when I got busted with AQ as very first player.
most glorious moment: winning TPC IV, I had some disgrace to erase (as you can read above) and played far above my own expectations. Every bluff I sniffed out, every value bet got nothing from me, I was in the zone. Only 2 players managed to get to me: Jeroen Van Acker who made me run into my biggest misplay of the day and myself when I started panicking in the heads-up against Dennis Hermans. I won and contrary to popular belief am not wearing my bracelet to “rub it in”, but because I would have cried out even louder than I did, would I have dared.
I owe a lot to Thomas “Survivor” Vanbrabant and Michiel “Mickey C” Clippeleyr for this win. After the 3rd edition they got me back on my feet and took some rough edges of my game. I’m still a ring game player, but at least now I can somewhat survive in tournament play.
favourite style:
playing: Buying table dominance, call it small ball for insane people
watching: Mickey’s “Big pots, Big decisions”, I love to see people squirm under the pressure of the C.
least favourite style: hibernation, call it tight agressive for scared people, both for playing and watching.
